If the 4 speed will fit is the V12 bell housing required?Ĭhristopher storey wrote:I am deeply dubious about the Laycock overdrive having the capacity to take the V12's torque. So will an XJ 6 4 speed go on the back of the V12 and would the associated overdrive also fit - will they take the power.
However as the series 3 had a 4 speed manual I can argue that is a period mod - likewise as the wheelbase is longer than earlier models an overdrive would be nice - also can argue would be a period mod.Ī v12 4 speed is impossible to get, but I understand then XJ 6 4 speed is the same box. I can accept the limited use aspect but having a 90s gearbox would not be considered meeting the originality requirement. The downside is that the vehicle can only be used for club events and that the vehicle must not be modified form original but can have period accessories or modifications. In Australia we have "club" registration and the costs are about 1/5th of those on full registration. I have a OTS auto which I have a home made conversion to a Getrag 290 5 speed gearbox.Īs I am now retired and have 3 vehicles on full registration (fully taxed) the costs are a bit high.
